CyberGhost VPN Review – A Cheap, Feature-Light, and Fast VPN from the Heart of Romania
Bucharest-based CyberGhost VPN is already a preferred choice for many internet users out there, particularly for its large and expanding server network, its core security features, and competitive pricing. If you are searching for a VPN that can do the job of hiding your real location and identity online, and you can live with a handful of its shortcomings, here’s an honest review of what CyberGhost can do for you.
Pros&Cons
Advantages and Disadvantages of CyberGhost VPN

That the VPN is truly a no-logs VPN has been audited and confirmed by two different third-party firms, including Deloitte. It has got the all-powerful kill switch too, but you can only find it on its Windows and Android apps. Not only that, its split tunnelling feature is also not available on the iOS app.
With servers across 100+ countries, and with its highly secure AES-256-CBC encryption, CyberGhost definitely offers a good value for money, but is it a speedster? More importantly, is it a truly secure VPN? I tried to find the answer and here’s what I found.
Speed Tests
How Did the CyberGhost Servers Perform During My Test?
I checked my home internet connection speed before turning CyberGhost on. Speedtest.net results revealed 38.13 Mbps download and 40.50 Mbps upload speeds, respectively. Ping stayed low, at around 10 Ms.

After that, I opened the CyberGhost Chrome extension and tested different server locations, starting with Romania.

Romania gave me the most balanced results overall. Download speed dropped to 33.52 Mbps. I also got an upload speed of 39.69 Mbps. The only obvious difference was the higher ping.

The US server surprised me, honestly. Even with the longer distance, the download speed climbed to 40.05 Mbps, while the upload speed stayed decent at 34.52 Mbps.

The Netherlands server, on the other hand, was the worst performer. Download speed dropped to 18.64 Mbps and upload speed landed at 12.80 Mbps.
My Personal Experience
CyberGhost VPN – What Can You do with It?
CyberGhost VPN is actually a part of a large suite of PC security and privacy tools. For an extra cost, you can add the antivirus and the security updater to the basic product, which is the VPN.
The security updater provides key privacy recommendations. But let’s now stick to the basic product, the VPN itself.

What I liked most about the VPN is that it has 21 dedicated IP locations. If you use a dedicated IP, you are assigned the same IP every time you connect to the VPN. This can be useful if you access bank websites and streaming services and you want not to get flagged. You can choose CyberGhost dedicated IP addresses in Australia, Canada, Germany, Singapore, the UK, and the US.
CyberGhost offers 7 device connections per user, or per subscription, which is fundamentally different from what most VPN providers offer. You can install it on as many devices you like, but you can only connect to 7 devices simultaneously. If you only have a few devices, this won’t be much of a problem.
But if you have a couple of phones, Smart TVs, and a laptop and you want to share it with friends and family too, you need to log in to the website, remove and add devices if you reach the limit.
Many of CyberGhost servers are virtual, and not physical, which is quite normal. Virtual servers offer you an extra layer of anonymity in countries that are not quite VPN-friendly. For example, its Egypt and Cyprus servers are actually hosted in Romania, as its NoSpy servers are located in that country. Also, its Iran location is actually hosted in Germany.
I found that the VPN does a decent job when it comes to unblocking major steraming sites such as Prime Video and Netflix. You can also unlock paid local content, such as Peacock, Britbox, ESPN and more with CyberGhost. Additionally, you can unlock free regional content such as BBC iPlaeyer.
The apps are easy to download and install. I installed its Chrome extension within a few seconds after signing up on the site. You may see the support documents if you face a roadblock, but most users should not have a problem installing it. You may also get live chat and email-based support if you need.
The app layout is simple. There’s a large “Connect” button which appears on the right side of the desktop application, and right in the middle of the mobile app interface. You just need to click it and once it turns yellow, you know you are connected to a server. Simple!
Most of its servers are located in Asia and Europe, but US has only 11 locations. To put it into some perspective, ExpressVPN has more than 54 locations throughout the USA. The rest of the server pool is quite well distributed across countries and continents. CyberGhost offers dedicated servers for P2P, gaming, and streaming, and you can use its 10 Gbps Ips for getting the optimal speeds.
If you are into torrenting, you can find most torrent-specific servers in 88+ countries. The made-for-streaming servers can be found across 24 countries, including Australia, Brazil, India, Japan, Korea, the US, and the UK. The gaming servers can be found in UK, US, France, and Germany.
Users’ Feedback
CyberGhost VPN – What Is the People’s Verdict?
I checked out Reddit threads, forum posts, and Google Playstore reviews to know what people are saying about CyberGhost VPN.
I noticed people bringing up the simple layout quite a bit, too. The server selection is huge, prices are usually lower on long plans, and for many users, it just works without much setup.
That said, not everybody had a smooth experience. I kept running into complaints about random disconnects, weird app behaviour after updates, and servers slowing down at busy times. Some people even complained about slowness and inefficiency of the support team.
After reading the reviews, I got an impression that people mostly choose CyberGhost because it’s easier to use compared to many other feature-heavy VPN services.
Independent Audits
CyberGhosts No-Logs Promise – Is It Audited?
Trust is built on transparency, and that transparency is built on proof, not on promises. While some VPN companies do not care to get their no-logs policy verified, CyberGhost doesn’t take it lightly.
In 2025, the company completed the third independent audit done by Deloitte Romania. The audit was conducted under the International Standard on Assurance Engagements (ISAE) 3000.
Deloitte Romania looked into the server network of CyberGhost VPN, the change management processes, and the incident response system. The team tested the dedicated IP network of CyberGhost and the internal security architecture.
You can read more about these third-party audits by visiting the official website or by directly emailing Deloitte Romania at CERORomania@DELOITTE.COM.
Search Trends
CyberGhost VPN – What Do the Search Trends Suggest?
I also checked Google Trends for several CyberGhost-related keywords over the past year.
The main “CyberGhost VPN” keyword stayed pretty stable overall. Interest dipped a few times but usually bounced back quickly. That tells me the brand still has strong name recognition.
People clearly still know it and search for it regularly. I also noticed a stronger spike earlier this year. That could’ve been triggered by seasonal VPN demand or discount campaigns. VPN searches usually jump during privacy scares streaming crackdowns and holiday sales.

The “CyberGhost VPN review” trend looked far more inconsistent. There were sharp spikes followed by sudden drops. To me that suggests people search reviews mostly during promotions or before buying.
It doesn’t look like steady organic hype. More like “Should I trust this VPN before paying?” behavior. Considering the mixed Reddit and forum discussions I saw earlier that makes sense.

The “CyberGhost VPN buy” keyword had very low volume overall. It only spiked during a few short periods. That tells me buying intent exists but is much weaker than bigger VPN brands.

When I compared it with NordVPN and ExpressVPN the gap was obvious. NordVPN dominated the chart almost the entire time. ExpressVPN stayed lower than NordVPN but still far ahead of CyberGhost.

NordVPN currently has stronger momentum stronger trust and better brand visibility overall. CyberGhost still gets attention and it looks like it will be a real competitor to ExpressVPN in near future.
DNS Leak Tests
Did CyberGhost Pass the DNS Leak Test?
I tested CyberGhost’s DNS leak protection using several tools including DNSLeakTest.com IPLeak.net DNSLeak.com and ExpressVPN’s DNS leak checker. The results varied a little depending on the site but none of them exposed my real ISP IP address or actual location.

Every test showed the same Romanian IP connected to M247 Europe in Bucharest which matched the VPN server I was using at the time.

DNSLeakTest.com detected one Romanian DNS server. IPLeak.net also showed only the Romanian VPN IP and DNS server with no forwarded IP address showing up.

ExpressVPN’s checker flagged “DNS requests exposed” but the detected server was still the same Romanian VPN endpoint instead of my real ISP connection.

IPLeak.net showed a similar warning and labelled it as a possible DNS leak even though the DNS server still belonged to the active VPN connection.
Conclusion
Should You Become a “Ghostie”?
CyberGhost affectionately refers to its users as “Ghosties”. The nickname implies that its users can become invisible while browsing, streaming, and gaming.
I found that the competitively priced VPN does its job quite well. It’s fast, it unblocks all kinds of streaming sites you can name, and it’s quite cheap.
So, if you are into streaming or gaming, or you just want to hide your identity online, CyberGhost can be a nice pick.
